The other day, my roommate and I were arguing about movies. Mostly the Harry Potter series. Her argument is that these movies are brilliant, and the books are even better. Personally I did not really enjoy the Harry Potter movies that much. The first one was not bad, but all the others didn’t really impress me. I realize that the book is usually better than the movie, but I’m not sure if I should waste my time reading the series. The storyline and some of the characters just do not interest me.
Is this book worth reading? Or will it be similar to the twilight series, where both the books and movies fell short.

I can’t explain how much better the books are than the movies. I read a HELL of a lot and I can confidently say that these are the best books I’ve ever read. They go into so much more detail, you’re able to fall in love with the characters and get lost in the story. The movies fall so short! I loved them, but they’re nowhere close to how amazing the books were.

First, “the book is usually better than the book” – might want to edit that.
Second, I personally really enjoyed the books. I read them for the first time last summer, and I thought that despite their target audience of children, they had a very interesting, compelling, and even funny story. If you’re not really into fantasy, maybe you won’t like them, but every book is a matter of personal preference.

I remember reading the first couple when they came out, and I wasn’t a huge fan. I branched off and read LOTR around the time the second book came out and never really got back into Harry Potter. I do feel like I should go back and read through them though. I’ve heard the later ones get darker, and the reason I didn’t keep reading them was I found the first few a little too youth oriented.
I tend to lose interest in youth oriented books as well. Perhaps past the first few books it gets better, I will definitely be checking them out!
I really enjoyed the books. I read them in Junior High and loved them then, and when I re-read some of them a couple of years later I still enjoyed them. I enjoy fantasy and sci fi based fiction so that is definitely a factor.

Absolutely. Definitely worth reading. They start off super simple (because Harry’s like 11 years old) but they get progressively more mature. You just get sucked into them and by the end of it you feel like Hogwarts is your second home.
Also I feel like the reason I like the movies is because I’m such a fan of the books. When you look at the films as separate entities they’re not actually that great. Some of them are really good, like Prisoner of Azkaban and Deathly Hallows pt 1. So maybe once you read the books and then watch the movies you’ll have a greater appreciation for them!
That makes sense! I’m planning to read them over the summer, I’m sure I’ll enjoy them more than the movie!

I LOVE Harry Potter and would definitely recommend the books. Personally i think J.K Rowling is a brilliant author, but that’s just my opinion and I know everyone thinks different things. But I would recommend them – so much better than Twilight which I really didn’t like
